Properties:
Fluctobar belongs to a group of medicines called “antifungals.” The active substance is fluconazole.
Fluctobar is used to treat fungal infections and may also be used to prevent Candida infections. Most fungal infections are caused by a yeast called Candida.
Indications:
Your doctor may prescribe this medicine for the treatment of the following fungal infections:
- Cryptococcal meningitis – a fungal infection in the brain;
- Coccidioidomycosis – a disease of the bronchopulmonary system;
- Infections caused by Candida and located in the blood, internal organs (heart, lungs), or urinary tract;
- Mucosal candidiasis – infections of the mucous membranes of the mouth, throat, and denture-induced stomatitis.
Fluctobar may also be prescribed for:
- Preventing the recurrence of cryptococcal meningitis;
- Preventing the recurrence of mucosal candidiasis;
- Preventing Candida infections (if your immune system is weakened and not functioning properly).
Composition:
The active substance is fluconazole. Each milliliter contains 2 mg of fluconazole.
Other ingredients are: sodium chloride, sodium hydroxide, water for solution for injection.
Method of administration:
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
This medicine will be administered to you by your doctor or nurse as a slow intravenous infusion. Fluctobar is supplied as a solution. It will not be further diluted.
Contraindications:
Do not use Fluctobar if you are allergic to fluconazole or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine, together with other medicines listed in the package leaflet, or if you have certain conditions that prevent you from using this medicine.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Presentation:
It is presented as a clear, colorless solution. Box containing one 50 ml Type I glass vial with infusion solution, closed with a rubber stopper, aluminum seal, and PE disc.
